XP1: The "Chuck Norris" Phone

GSMArena has a detailed review of the Sonim XP1.

Snipped from the article:

In the world of mobile phones it's all about diversity, and just about everyone has their favorite. We've seen enough of brand loyalty taken to extremes but it's for the first time we come across a phone that might deal with anything you can throw at it (or better yet - anything that you throw it at).

This ultra-durable bloke can take some impressive abuse and the worst weather extremities. The XP1 may be somewhat under the weather featurewise but hardly any other phone can put up with what this soldier can endure.

The Sonim XP1 (also known as JCB Toughphone in some markets and the Chuck Norris phone in our office)...

But we assume the reviewers are joking here:

Nevertheless, the Sonim XP1 is a real survivor but we doubt that it would do it any good with that hefty price tag. 300 euro for the ultimate heavy-duty phone may not sound as a rip-off, but you should remember that for that kind of money you could easily get yourself a good half a dozen other handsets with the same feature set. They may not be as tough as our champion here, but they simply win by numbers. After all, with a fleet of six cellphones you can easily have five sledgehammered and you'd still have one to talk on.

Well sure, you could carry one phone and five backup phones all the time just to ensure you'll always have one that works, or you could carry just one XP1 and count on to survive extreme conditions and heavy use, knowing that it'll work no matter what you do to it. I wish that great engineering and quality materials were cheap commodities, but until that unlikely turn of events occurs premium products will have premium price tags.
